At the end of August, we recorded four (4) separate price increases imposed on our product lines: 5% (January 31), 6% (March 31), 5% (August 5), and, on August 28, a further 8% price increase.

Home Porch & Patio Kits is not going to take on the task we have entrusted to our governments, nor will it try to explain how tariffs work and why they are — and will continue to — impact pricing on our product lines.

Tariffs are a complicated affair.

What we can say is that our represented manufacturers are not arbitrarily raising prices, nor are they ‘taking advantage’ of uncertain times.

Despite our suppliers’ best efforts to absorb these rising costs and limit their impact on you, the pressures have become unsustainable.

Effective June 4, 2025, the U.S. government doubled tariffs on aluminum and steel imports from 25% to 50%. The initial 25% tariff introduced in March had already begun impacting global commodity prices,

sourcing strategies, and supply chain stability. The June increase is having a compounding effect across all these areas.

Aluminum pricing in the U.S. is primarily driven by the Midwest Transaction Price (MWTP), which includes two components:

· The base price of aluminum traded on the London Metal Exchange (LME)

· The Midwest Premium (MWP), which reflects added costs such as energy, logistics, and now—increasingly—tariff-driven supply-demand pressure

While the LME increased a modest 4% in August, the MWP has surged by over 72%, resulting in a combined MWTP increase of more than 21% in the past month alone. The MWTP is 44% higher today than it was one year ago.

All this to say, we doubt it will get better. The uncertainties created by the times we live in will continue to work themselves out for the foreseeable future, at least for the coming 12-18 months.

Consider doing that aluminum patio cover, screen enclosure, or modular sunroom sooner rather than later.  It will likely save you some money in the future, and your return on investment will be higher as prices increase.

Home Porch & Patio Kits remains committed to walking with you through the coming seasons, providing high-quality DIY products that consistently deliver a return on investment and, at the same time, improve your backyard living.
