My wife is generally just amazing. She is also amazing at crafting. From greeting cards to centerpieces to stained glass window art, she could disappear into her craft room and come out an hour later with something you would be proud to display. She loves doing it for others and our home benefits as well. Our marriage also benefits from my wife’s desire to DIY. She is not prone to anxiety, stress, or moodiness. Despite life’s challenges, she has a very high level of life satisfaction. Though I cannot prove cause and effect, you would be hard-pressed to convince me that her DIY activities do not play a part in what makes my wife “amazing” beyond artistic talent.
In the same line of reasoning, job satisfaction rates for construction workers are at the top of the list. There is something about turning around at the end of the day and physically seeing a finished product. When we commit to doing things ourselves with a goal in mind, we increase our ability to ‘stay present focused’ while at the same time being less ‘self-focused.’ We know we are participating in or accomplishing something more significant.
This is part of the thrill for us at Home Porch & Patio Kits! All the above elements come into play when you take on the challenge of taking stock of a set of materials for an Aluminum Patio Cover or a complete Modular Sunroom system and set about assembling it over a few days. Recently, upon purchasing a Hard Top Screen Room, one customer said they were looking forward to it because family was coming in from out of town to help with the project! For that customer, the entire family will have the sense of accomplishment that comes with a DIY project every time they gather in their new screen room.
No matter your skill level in the DIY space, when you ‘just do it,’ there is always an increase in self-reliance. The project can be used as a distraction and even a way to digitally unplug over the time of installation. You will build on your ability to persevere through problems. For most of us, there is the physical benefit of moving around rather than being stuck behind a desk.
These factors have helped us with our DIY projects over the years. It becomes an attitude, seeing an opportunity to learn, grow and share.
Home Porch and Patio Kits is always excited to be part of taking your vision, our DIY products, and creating that unique added living space that you can look back on and say, “I just did that!”
